New Delhi: The High Court has rejected the bail application of former JNU student Umar Khalid in the Delhi riots case. A Delhi court had in March this year also refused bail to Khalid in a case of alleged conspiracy related to the February 2020 riots.
The court had said that there are reasonable grounds to believe that the allegations against him are prima facie true. Umar Khalid is in jail since 14 September 2020.
A case was registered against Khalid under sections of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and the Indian Penal Code for conspiracy to commit riots. Significantly, 53 people died in the riots in Delhi, while more than 700 people were injured.
